Ferny Crofts aim to hold as many training opportunities for leaders to attend throughout the year. We work with several organisations to bring a range of courses to site ranging from First Aid to Raft Building.

Hampshire Scout Grants
Are you a member of Hampshire Scouts? If you are, we want you to know that Hampshire Scouts want everyone to get involved and be able to learn new skills and they do not want anything to get in the way. scout permit course - archery
Saturday 21st - Sunday 22nd February 2026
A two day course (16 hours) which provides the necessary training and assessment for candidates to achieve their Archery leadership permit for recurve bows. The course will be a mixture of both theory and practical skills.
At the end of the course you will receive a Scout Activity permit in Archery which will enable you to run sessions for groups within the Scout Association.
This course is not catered, so please bring lunches for the two days, although tea and coffee will be provided throughout. You will be working outdoors from time to time, so please wear appropriate clothing and bring waterproofs.
The days will run from approximately 9:00am - 5:00pm.
Camping can be booked separately.

Scout Permit Course - Artificial Top Rope Climbing
Saturday 25th - Sunday 26th April 2026
A two day course, which is designed to teach specific skills in leading a group on artificial walls and towers, in a single pitch top rope climbing activity and managing up to two belay systems at once.
Candidates must be a member of the Scout Association.
This course does not cover abseiling.
At the end of the course you will receive a Scout Activity permit in artificial Top Rope climbing which will enable you to run sessions for groups within the Scout Association.
Please note, on completion of the course, restrictions may be imposed on your permit by the assessor. These shall be covered in the course.

scout permit course - Traditional raft building
Saturday 11th - Sunday 12th april 2026
This two day course will train and assess the competence of candidates to lead groups in traditional rafting activities. Permits may be restricted to specific classes of water or locations.
Topics that are covered are responsibilities, group management, risk assessment, weather, technical factors, emergency procedures and equipment.
Gain a Scout Permit in Traditional Raft Building.
This course is not catered, so please bring a packed lunch, although tea and coffee will be provided throughout. You will be working outdoors, so please wear appropriate clothing and bring waterproofs.
The days will run from approximately 9:00am to 5:00pm

Archery GB Course
Saturday 30th - Sunday 31st May 2026
This is a two day course which is designed for people with little or no prior experience of Archery. Candidates must be at least 17 years old by the start of the course.
Topics that are covered within the course are; how to shoot arrows, preparing and delivering Archery sessions, how to select appropriate equipment, setting up a range and how to ensure safety on the range.
Successful candidates will gain an Archery GB Instructor licence which will last for three years.
If you are a member of the Scout association attending this course, on completion and following a discussion with a permit assessor, you may be eligible for a leadership permit for archery. If this is what you are interested in, please email us at fernycrofts@fernycrofts.org.uk.
